Ukraine – Is the US Government Responsible for the World?

There have been riots going on in the Ukraine because the citizens are fighting for their independence from Russia, so they can move more toward a more European/Western capitalist society.  Although they are an independent country the people feel like their President is just a puppet for the Russian government, and their rights are not being protected like they should be as an independent state.

Typically stories like this don’t gain traction in the USA because there is always fighting somwhere, but this one did probably because of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.  The media coverage of the story has left Barack Obama and the US Government in an unenviable position because Americans are supposed to be champions of democracy around the world, but we need Russian support in the War on Terror, so what should we do?

The images of protesters being shot resonates in America and causes a big uproar because as a society we are soft and are easily affected by death.  What we fail to realize is that in other countries they see death everyday, so they are not afraid of it and in some cases welcome it.  In some cases death is even seen as a glorious end, which is the problem we are having with suspected terrorists.

Should America help Ukraine gain their independence? if so what happens when their agenda crosses with America’s agenda? Helping Ukraine could not only alienate Russia, but it could also eventually empower a new enemy.  This is the same scenario that helped create Osama Bin Laden, and we know how that turned out.

Should the US Government continue being the moral compass of the world? or should we just worry about our problems? Do we have all the answers where we should be forcing our views on the world? It is an interesting dilemma and there isn’t really a right answer.  It’s really a no win situation, but what do you think we should do?

No Justice for Jordan Davis

Jordan Davis is the African-American teen from Jacksonville, Florida, who was shot and killed by Michael Dunn over an argument about loud music.  The life of an African-American doesn’t mean much in Florida as Dunn was convicted of attempted murder for shooting at the car as it attempted to escape, but the jury was deadlocked on the murder charge.

Basically Dunn could have gotten off if he stopped shooting after he killed Jordan Davis.  Dunn’s may still get off because this is a strange verdict.  If the jury thought he was justified in shooting into the car, why convict him on anything? People will erroneously blame this on the “Stand your ground” law, or think that this is just a Florida problem when it much bigger than that.

Michael Dunn ‘Loud Music’ Trial Ends in Partial Verdict

By not finding Dunn guilty on the murder the jury justified that Dunn should have feared for his life when a young African-American confronted him.  That’s more of a problem than the “Stand Your Ground” law because if one group is threatened by another in general then there will be senseless killings like this whether there is a controversial law or not.  This verdict is more indicative of where society stands in regard to race relations.  There is a disconnect between non-minorities and minorities in America, and its not limited to Florida.

Dunn received support on social media from all over the world, not just in Florida.  In the related Trayvonne Martin case, George Zimmerman made a website and was able to collect $200, 000 in donations, so obviously there is a segment of the population that sympathizes with being in fear for your life when ever there is a confrontation with a minority.  The Jordan Davis and Trayvonne Martin murders are significant because these were 2 children that were killed by adults, regardless of color, but the life of minority children pales in comparison to non-minorities feeling safe.

This isn’t a Florida problem, it’s a country problem.  No matter how far we think we have come as a society, there is still a long way to go.  It’s ironic because society is beginning to acknowledge that people shouldn’t be judged off of their sexual orientation, but people are still judged off the color of their skin.  After this verdict it is questionable whether that will ever change.

A change in laws isn’t going to change something that is embedded in our culture.  The precedent has been set and minorities need to understand that when dealing  with non-minorities they have to be more submissive.   The rules aren’t fair, but we all have to play the game.

Life as a Truck Stop Stripper [Vice News Exclusive]

Natalia Leite and Alexandra Roxo lived a week as truck-stop strippers at Club 203 in Moriarty, New Mexico as part of the ‘Every Woman‘ series for Vice News.   In the ‘Every Woman‘ series the girls attempt to live the lives of women in various fields.  Club 203 is ‘the Place strippers go to die‘ according to the reviews on Ultimate Strip Club List.  What they did is crazy and dangerous, but was great to get a peek behind the curtain of what is really happening in these isolated areas. It is also good that people see the other side of stripping.  It’s not all glamorous, and even if it is good for a while, it ends up like this.

Motivational Speeches – TGIM (Season 8 Episode 6)

Eric Thomas (ET) is back with TGIM (Thank God It’s Monday).  In this installment he speaks about waiting on your moment.  ET spoke on all the communications he receives that ask when things will get better.  ET was real as always and he admitted that he can’t say when the things will get better, but he can say one thing for sure; if you quit it will never get better.

ET gave 4 tips to help while waiting on your moment.  First, work while you wait.  He says you can’t stop working and hope to get better results, you have to work harder to get better results.  Second work on your focus and see difficult as different.   The more that you go through the stronger you become, so on the bright side through adversity you get stronger.  Third work on your faith.  You have to believe to achieve.  Lastly he says that you have to work on yourself.  As always Eric Thomas is on point and his motivational speeches get you ready to face anything.

Peyton Manning Once Again Disappoints on NFL Big Stage

It shouldn’t be surprising sports news that Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos suffered an epic defeat in Superbowl XLVIII 43-8.  This is another disappointment in a long career of disappointments for Manning.  Make no mistake Manning is the greatest regular season quarterback and has changed the game, but he continues to come up short in the big game.

At Tennessee he never beat Florida, and in his only Superbowl victory, the Indianapolis Colts defense carried him, and it was against Rex Grossman.  But Peyton Manning is one of the  faces of the NFL so no one remembers it that way.  Everything Peyton does gets magnified, which is why this Bronco team may have felt pressure to live up to unreal expectations in Superbowl XLVIII.

There was talk that this Denver Broncos team had the greatest offense of all time, and this was the Manning’s best chance to win a Superbowl.  But this team wasn’t even close to Manning’s Indianapolis Colts teams. But the Colts didn’t have multiple Superbowls because the offense never showed up in the big game.  Those Colts teams had Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne,  and Edgerrin James, even though history diminishes their legacy to grow Peyton’s legacy, this Broncos team doesn’t have offensive talent to match that.

The  bottom line is that football is a barbaric game, and when the stakes are high, it’s about physicality.  There is no way to outsmart the other team.  The media story of this Superbowl is that Manning was under pressure which is why he didn’t perform up to standards, but he wasn’t sacked and was only hit twice.  The Broncos offensive line will get the blame, but it’s hard on an offensive line when they are protecting a football player that gets scared at the thought of getting hit.

The biggest travesty in all of this is the fact that the media is still hanging on to this Peyton Manning myth.  His image can’t take the hit, so it’s all of his teammates fault.  They must not have come to play because Peyton Manning can do no wrong.  Also since the Seahawks dominated the great Peyton Manning, they must be one of the greatest defenses of all time, which is a bit premature.  It was a great victory for the Seahawks, but 2 weeks ago there were questions if that Seahawks defense was better than the San Francisco 49ers, and they did barely escape the 49ers.

But now they are being compared to the ’85 Bears.  The real truth from this Superbowl is how weak the AFC is compared to the NFC.  But we won’t see stories like the NBA, where the Eastern Conference was blasted a quarter of way through season, because the 2 faces of the NFL, Manning and Tom Brady, play in the AFC.  There was a reason that Manning chose the Broncos over the San Francisco 49ers.  He didn’t want any part of the physical ‘smash mouth’ football they play in the NFC West and it showed in Superbowl XLVIII.

Seattle Seahawks Dominate Denver Broncos to Win Superbowl XLVIII

There is a saying that defense wins championships and Super Bowl XLVIII did nothing to dispel that notion.  The Seattle Seahawks, the number 1 ranked defense, destroyed the Denver Broncos, the number 1 ranked offense, 43-8.  The game was never in doubt as the Broncos center snapped the ball over Peyton Manning’s head on the first play of the game for a safety, and that set the tone for the rest of the game.  The Seahawks had a total team effort as their offense defense and special teams all scored touchdowns.

It was a total team effort, and with all the talk about Peyton Manning’s legacy, it may be Pete Carroll who is going down as an all time great.  Carroll had the ultimate success in college at USC creating a dynasty.   Now he has a young Superbowl Champion NFL team that could be another dynasty, and this time he doesn’t have to worry about NCAA violations.

This was the only game that receiver Percy Harvin played this year, and he showed the type of big play potential that is rare,  and receiver Sidney Rice will be returning next year, so it is not out of the realm of possibility th at this team could be even better next year.  The only problem for the Seahawks is that it’s going to be hard to keep this group together when players become free agents, but those losses could be overcome by a full season from Percy Harvin.  Whatever happens, no one will ever be able to take away this Superbowl championship from them, the Seattle Seahawks are champions.
